David and Laurie Vanderpool founded Mobile Medical Disaster Relief (now known as LiveBeyond) shortly after Hurricane Katrina to help with disaster relief in the Gulf area. Over the years, they have established an aid presence in 14 countries around the world. After the 2010 Haiti earthquakes, the Vanderpools were first responders to provide medical care in Port-au-Prince. After seeing the desperation and needs of the people there, they established a base of operations in Thomazeau, Haiti. They plan to live there indefinitely to transform Thomazeau for The Kingdom of God.

They have been married since 1981 and have three children.
