Black Maternal Health Week 2024: Celebration and Commitment

As Black Maternal Health Week 2024 comes to an end tomorrow, we are reminded of the profound impact it has on the lives of Black mothers and their children. This week, founded and led by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, serves as a beacon of awareness, activism, and community-building to address the disparities in maternal health outcomes among Black women. At LiveBeyond, we support this vital cause, reflecting on our journey and renewing our commitment to supporting Black mothers in Thomazeau, Haiti, and beyond.

Reflecting on Progress

Over the years, we have witnessed remarkable progress in Haiti. This is thanks to the relentless support of our donors and the dedication of our team. Through our Maternal Health Program, funded by generous contributions, we have seen tangible improvements in maternal and infant health outcomes.

Since the inception of the LiveBeyond Maternal Health Program…

– The maternal mortality rate in our target area has decreased by 69%.

– The infant mortality rate has decreased by 55%.

– The neonatal mortality rate has decreased by 54%.

– 98% of the mothers in our program exclusively breastfeed for the first 6+ months of their baby’s life.

These achievements are not just statistics; they represent lives saved and futures transformed. Each percentage point represents a mother who was able to hold her newborn baby. It means a family spared from the agony of loss, & a community strengthened by hope.

The Fight Continues

While we celebrate these milestones, our work is far from over. Racial disparities and cycles of poverty persist in Haiti and drastically affect maternal health outcomes in a negative manner. At LiveBeyond, we are committed to addressing the root causes of maternal illness, disability, and death. We believe every mother deserves to experience a safe and healthy pregnancy. A pregnancy free from systemic barriers and institutional neglect. Through our programs and initiatives, we strive to empower Black mothers with the resources, support, and education they need to thrive.

Supporting Black Mothers & Children

Our Maternal Health Program encompasses a holistic approach to maternal care. The Maternal Health Program provides essential services. Women receive prenatal vitamins, medical care, nutrition, & maternal education throughout pregnancy and beyond. By addressing both the physical and social determinants of health, we aim to ensure that every mother receives comprehensive support tailored to her needs.

In addition to maternal healthcare, we are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders through our educational programs. The LiveBeyond School and Johnny’s Kids program offer children in Thomazeau access to quality education, nutritious meals, healthcare, and therapy. By investing in their futures, we empower these children to break the cycle of poverty and build a brighter tomorrow for themselves and their communities.

A Call to Action

As we commemorate Black Maternal Health Week, we invite you to join us in our mission to eradicate maternal mortality in Haiti. Your support, whether through donations, advocacy, or spreading awareness, plays a vital role in creating a world where every mother and child can thrive.

Together, we can turn the tide of maternal health disparities. We can help ensure that mothers in need receive the care and support they deserve. Let us stand in support of Black mothers, amplifying their voices and honoring their experiences. Let us fight for their right to maternal justice.

In the words of Matthew 19:26, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Let us continue to trust in God’s grace and guidance as we work toward a future where Black maternal health disparities are a thing of the past.

Thank you for your unwavering support and commitment. Together, we can make a difference that lasts a lifetime.
