Through our efforts at LiveBeyond to end malnutrition in our region of Thomazeau, we will be connecting with local schools to provide meals for many hungry children.
We will be working with local schools for the following reasons:
a) We can reach many hungry children efficiently & effectively.
b) Meeting basic needs helps children focus and learn more readily.
c) School is a safe place children can rely on for food security.
The CDC states, “Hunger due to insufficient food intake is associated with lower grades, higher rates of absenteeism, repeating a grade, and an inability to focus among students.”
As we continue to move forward with the nutrition program, we are beginning to interview school principals and administrators. The reason we are interviewing the school admin is to ensure they can abide by all necessary guidelines and protocols for the nutrition program.
The required protocols include:
1. The school will not sell the food.
2. Each school is capable of cooking large quantities of food.
3. Each school will conduct Bible studies when serving the food.
Once we complete all of the interview processes, we will begin the first steps of implementing the nutrition program in the new schools. Throughout the school year, LiveBeyond staff will go to each individual local school and complete health check-ins. At these check-ins, we will conduct height and weight measurements. These check-ins will be completed to ensure each child progresses and stays on track for proper health. We will also do monthly audits with each school to check for compliance with the program guidelines.
As we interview schools, we would appreciate your prayers. We pray that each school is willing and capable of taking on these responsibilities. We pray the Lord will help us reach many children in need. Thank you for your continued support & prayers!
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.” – Mark 10: 14-16
