Haiti Travel Advisory Update June 2019

What does the lowered travel advisory mean for LiveBeyond Teams? And what can you do to help?

See the latest update from CEO & Founder of LiveBeyond, Dr. David Vanderpool. In this video he discusses what the lowered travel advisory means, and how you can help.

Video Transcript:

David Vanderpool, MD: Hi, LiveBeyond family. I bring you greetings from Thomazeau, Haiti and the LiveBeyond base. I wanted to give you an update on what’s going on in Haiti right now. As you may know, the State Department has lowered the travel advisory from a level 4 to a 3, which is great news for us. This means that we plan to start bringing teams back in in August. Right now, there’re still quite a few demonstrations and protests taking place in Port-au-Prince. So, we don’t feel like it is safe right now to bring teams down. But perhaps by August it’s going to be calmed down quite a bit, and we really look forward to bringing teams in this fall. There’s a couple of things that you can do to facilitate this process. One is to pray for the people of Haiti. Right now the people of Haiti are really suffering. Inflation has hit, and the currency has been devalued significantly. This means that they aren’t able to buy food and things they need to survive. And the poor are starting to suffer. So, please pray for them, that they will have the strength and endurance to get through this process. Pray for us to have more resources also to take care of them, to be able to feed them with our supplies, give them clean water and medical care. Secondly, please pray for the government of Haiti. Right now, there’s a significant instability in the country. So please pray that stability will return, the peace of Jesus Christ will return to this country that experiences so much turmoil. Lastly, please consider donating to LiveBeyond. Since our team trips have been cancelled, we’ve had a hard time maintaining the revenue stream that we’re used to. And we would really appreciate if you would donate to LiveBeyond during this trying time. Thank you so much for listening, and get out there and LiveBeyond!

How You Can Help Haiti During this Time:

1. Pray for Haiti Sign up to participate in the Haiti Day of Prayer on July 25, 2019. And spread the word on social media so that we can fill 24 hours of continuous prayer for the Haitian people and their government. You can find a time to pray here.

2. Support LiveBeyond programs.

Donating to any of our programs means that people in Thomazeau will continue to receive the resources they need to survive during this time of instability. Program support also ensures job security for the personnel in that program – meaning that they don’t have to worry where their next meal is coming from either. Give to any LiveBeyond program or “where most needed” here.

3. Sign up for a future mission trip.

Haiti’s travel warnings won’t stay high forever. Check out our 2019 and 2020 trip dates to find out when you can make a personal difference in Haiti. Trip dates are listed here.
