Haitian Flag Day: A Day of Deep Reflection

In two days, on May 18th, Haiti will observe Haitian Flag Day. A day when Haitians celebrate their independence and honor their rich cultural heritage. On this day, Haitians reflect on their struggles and triumphs and the resilience and determination that have been the hallmark of their people. Despite facing many challenges, including political unrest, natural disasters, and economic hardship, the people of Haiti have always had a deep sense of pride in their culture & an unwavering commitment to rebuilding their country.

History of the Haitian Flag

The Haitian Flag is an important symbol for the people of Haiti because it commemorates their fight for freedom. In 1791, the Haitian Revolution began as Haitians started to fight for their independence from France. On May 18, 1803, the military leaders designed a new flag to demonstrate their freedom and unify their people. After defeating the French in battle, Haiti declared its freedom on January 1, 1803, becoming the first country ever to free itself from slavery.

Haiti Today

We understand that Haiti is currently facing very difficult times. Undoubtedly, the current political instability, economic insecurity, and social unrest add significant hardship. Haitians face enormous challenges every day. But even in the midst of these challenges, the Haitian people remain resilient. LiveBeyond is working hard to provide security and stability for the individuals we serve. The base continues to provide services, and the LiveBeyond employees remain committed to caring for their community.

LiveBeyond is honored to serve the people of Haiti and share the love and hope of Jesus Christ with them. The people of Thomazeau are working to create positive life outcomes and a better future for themselves. Through healthcare, nutrition, and education, LiveBeyond is helping to create a long-term, positive impact for the women, children and families of Thomazeau.

LiveBeyond Stands with Haiti

As Christians, we are called to love and serve those in need. In Galatians, scripture tells us to “have an open hand ” and “give freely” to those in need. And in Hebrews, we are told, “Do not neglect to do good and share what you have.” The people of Haiti need our help. They need our prayers, our support and our encouragement. Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas, & they are stuck in a punishing cycle of poverty and violence.

The people of Haiti deserve better. This is why, LiveBeyond stands with the people of Haiti as they fight for a chance of a better future. LiveBeyond is dedicated to creating a positive impact with & for the people of Thomazeau. Through the Maternal Health Program, women and children are experiencing improved health, and maternal and infant mortality rates are dropping. The Nutrition Program is improving the overall health of women, children, and their families with nutrition-packed meals. And the LiveBeyond School and Johnny’s Kids program are increasing opportunities for education and quality jobs for children of all abilities in Thomazeau. Access to healthcare, nutrition, and education is helping the people of Thomazeau experience a better quality of life. Positive change is taking place in Thomazeau.

Praying for Haiti

If you have a desire to help the people of Haiti, lift them up in prayer. You can pray specifically for:

– Peace, for an end to violence

– Christian leaders to rise up

– A government that seeks the welfare of its people

– That the economy and all industries will have a resurgence

– The health and well-being of Haitians

LiveBeyond is committed to the people of Thomazeau because we believe that every individual is created in the image of God and deserves to be treated with dignity & respect. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to work alongside our Haitian brothers and sisters and to help build a brighter future for all. We pray the Lord will continue to use LiveBeyond to love and serve the people of Haiti.

So on this Haitian Flag Day, LiveBeyond honors the rich culture of Haiti and stands in solidarity with the Haitian people. Let us celebrate their resilience and determination. Together, we can help bring about positive change and create a better tomorrow for future generations.
