Healthy Mothers in Haiti: Equipped with Clean Water

In 2010, along with the devastating earthquake Haiti experienced, they were hit with an outbreak of Cholera. This is a disease spread through contaminated drinking water and is deadly if left untreated. Throughout the years since the outbreak, new cases in Haiti have continued to occur. Without proper sanitation and healthcare in Haiti, this easily treatable disease has taken many lives. According to the United Nations, in January 2020 it was reported that the country of Haiti had gone a full year free of any new cases of Cholera.

Action Taken by LiveBeyond

With our focus to promote healthy mothers and children in the Thomazeau area, we knew we had to take action to help combat the Cholera outbreaks. With unsanitary water being the number one cause of spread for Cholera, we desperately needed to provide the Thomazeau community with clean water. We took steps by purifying existing water wells and drilling new clean water wells. Today, the Thomazeau community has access to over 900,000 gallons of clean water every day.

What This Means for the People of Thomazeau

Before having access to purified water wells, people in Thomazeau had to walk miles and miles to get water. The rigorous process of carrying heavy buckets of unclean water back to their homes is now a thing of the past. The vast majority of villages and neighborhoods in Thomazeau now have clean water wells accessible to the community. These clean water sources are saving time and resources and promoting healthier communities.

Thanks to our amazing donors, LiveBeyond is able to continue to provide healthcare, nutrition, and education to mothers and children in the Thomazeau community. Thank you for supporting healthy mothers, healthy children, and a healthy Thomazeau community!

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
