How can you fully trust the Lord this Holiday Season?

LiveBeyond’s Jack Locke, joins mission participants in prayer during a visit to the home of a program beneficiary during a mission trip on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, in Thomazeau, Haiti. ( Smiley N. Pool / The Dallas Morning News )

Days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday are easy to buy into because as society of consumers, those days allow us to purchase something tangible. We get to see all of our hard work in that new TV or that new outfit.

But what would it look like if Giving Tuesday were just as big as Black Friday or Cyber Monday?

What if instead of buying a bunch of tangible things, we made the choice to give our money to someone or something we can’t see but know will make a difference in the world. Would we do it?

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving where people can donate to the nonprofit or charity of their choice as the year comes to an end. It is a day set aside for giving instead of consuming. To some this may seem odd. Why would you want to give away your hard earned money instead of keeping it for yourself?

As believers, we know that nothing in this world is ours. Giving is supposed to be second nature to us. It says, in 2 Corinthians 9:11,

“ You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”

“So that you can be generous on every occasion”. I believe that the Lord is generous in His provision to us us, even when we don’t realize it. He blesses us so that we, in return, can bless others.

While this seems simple enough, it requires a lot of trust in the Lord.

Do you really trust Him with your finances enough to give to people in need?

Do you really trust that the Lord is going to continuously provide for you so that you can bless others?

Do you really trust that the Lord can use whatever amount you are able to give, to grow his Kingdom?

These questions are just tools that Satan uses to stop us from living the way that God has called us to live. These questions prevent us from living our lives as generous givers and doers for the Kingdom, which is exactly what the enemy wants.

So this giving season, I want to challenge you all, myself included, to trust the Lord completely. Trust that the Lord is who He says He is. Trust that He is good. Trust that He is a provider. And trust in the way that He has called you to live. If we really believe what it says in 2 Corinthians 9:11, that we are enriched in every way so that we can be generous on every occasion, and we live out that verse, we will see communities and countries transformed. So this giving season, be generous. Whether it is with your time or with your finances. It can be through LiveBeyond or one of the many other great organizations out there, but as Christians, let’s trust that the Lord has enriched us and let’s be generous!

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases!
