According to the United Nations, Haiti has one of the highest levels of food insecurity in the world, half of the population is undernourished, and more than one in three people need urgent food assistance. Not only is this affecting adults, it is causing huge deficits in child nutrition. These are devastating but very real circumstances for the people of Haiti.
In Thomazeau alone, estimations are that nearly 9300 children suffer from malnutrition. UNICEF states “Poor nutrition in the first 1,000 days of a child’s life can also lead to stunted growth, which is associated with impaired cognitive ability and reduced school and work performance.”
At LiveBeyond, we believe in providing necessary resources, such as nutritious meals, so that children can thrive and live abundant lives. At the LiveBeyond school, children receive quality education along with protein packed meals to ensure no child endures the negative outcomes of malnutrition.
We believe it is crucial for children to have full stomachs with proper nutrition when it is time to learn. When a child is hungry they will not learn at the same capacity as if they are well fed. When this is a chronic problem, it goes further than the child being distracted by hunger. Chronic malnutrition can cause lifelong cognitive impairment. This is why it is vital to provide nutritious, protein rich meals for the LiveBeyond students.
We are also able to provide meals to students outside of the LiveBeyond School. Currently, we are providing meals for a total 3200 children in the Thomazeau region. We do this by providing the needed resources for local schools to provide meals for the students who attend their schools.
It is important to reach the remaining malnourished children in Thomazeau. We want to be a solution by providing proper child nutrition to end the problem of chronic malnutrition in Thomazeau, Haiti. You can sponsor a child for $40 a month to provide a solution to the problem. You can also share this blog to help spread awareness.
