In the United States we have made much progress for individuals and children with disabilities. We have created legislation such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). We have not created all of the solutions and still have much to accomplish.
In Haiti, individuals and children with disabilities often become recipients of tragic abuse. The reason is because they are not seen as equals. This is a harsh reality that is unfortunately true for too many individuals with disabilities in Haiti.
LiveBeyond saw a need for children with disabilities and created a solution.
Johnny’s Kids was created to serve children with special needs. LiveBeyond’s cofounder, Laurie Vanderpool, grew up with a brother who had Down’s Syndrome. Her brother, Johnny, was the inspiration to create the Johnny’s Kids program.
LiveBeyond wanted to provide a place where all children receive the love, attention, and care that they deserve and need. Johnny’s Kids enrolls children from all throughout the Thomazeau community. When they enroll in the program, we ensure each child receives proper nutrition, education, and healthcare.
Some of our children who have been in the Johnny’s Kids program have been mainstreamed into the LiveBeyond school. When these children join the school, they excel and thrive. One of our students who started in Johnny’s Kids and transitioned to the school became the top student in her class at the LiveBeyond School.
Johnny’s Kids is a place where all children receive love, treatment and care equally. They become empowered to experience the best in life and reach their full potential.
Our mission is to change the world one life at a time. Every child and individual deserves to know their worth and live a fulfilling life. LiveBeyond wants to be a part of this solution!
We continue to be grateful for your generous support to the LiveBeyond base. If you feel called to sponsor a child, click here to give hope today! When you sponsor a child, you ensure they receive proper healthcare, nutrition and education.
