In last week’s blog, we discussed the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030. It is very important to LiveBeyond to align our work with the SDGs so that we can assist in the transformation of our world. LiveBeyond is focused on providing healthcare and nutrition to women and children to change the world one life at a time. With that focus, we have aligned our work with five specific SDGs that the United Nations created. Those being quality education, clean water, zero hunger, good health & well being, and no poverty. In all of our work, we strive to help be a part of reaching these transformative goals.
At the LiveBeyond base, we have started a school to provide quality education to children from K-12 grade. Not only do we provide quality education, but we also have an inclusive school to equip children with special needs. Wherever you are, it is important to provide an inclusive environment for all children. Often children with special needs are outcast and shunned in Haiti. The LiveBeyond school provides quality education to all children and has created an environment of inclusion for children with special needs!
In the Thomazeau area, LiveBeyond has drilled and/or purified 97 water wells, which provides a capacity of over 900,000 gallons of clean water each day. According to the World Health Organization, almost half a million people die each year from contaminated drinking water. In our community, lives are being saved with access to clean water wells.
We will not stand for the people of Thomazeau to go hungry. In our maternal health program, each mother is provided with a nutritious hot meal during her check-up and she is provided with food to take home to cook for her family for the week. Our school children are provided with nutritious meals throughout their day as well.
The LiveBeyond base is equipped with a fully operational medical hospital. This ensures the people of Thomazeau and the surrounding area have access to quality healthcare. We currently serve over 200 mothers and infants in the maternal health program. This promotes healthy pregnancies and in return, healthy babies when they are born. The LiveBeyond hospital is providing healthcare to those that had no access before. The hospital is promoting good health and well being to the community.
To wrap it up, the LiveBeyond base has provided hundreds of well-paying jobs to those in the Thomazeau community. According to The World Bank, more than 6 million of Haiti’s population live below the poverty line of $2.41 a day. We are thrilled to be able to provide our amazing staff with well-paying jobs to keep them significantly over the poverty line. The LiveBeyond school is also helping break the poverty cycle by providing quality education.
All 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals provided by the United Nations are equally important. At LiveBeyond, we are dedicated to seeing our work continue to align with these goals to transform the world. With your help, we will change the world one life at a time.
